Over 100 New York families were asked to evacuate due to the Jennings Creek wildfire, which has been burning from Orange County to West Milford, New Jersey for over a week. According to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation,

The battle against the Jennings Creek wildfire in Orange County, New York continues Sunday following voluntary evacuations in the town of Warwick. Residents along Edgemere Avenue and in Wah-Ta-Wah Park were encouraged to evacuate Saturday night, affecting more than 160 houses. Greenwood Lake Middle School is being utilized as a shelter.

Firefighters are getting closer to taming a wildfire burning across the New Jersey-New York border, increasing their encirclement of the hard-to-access blaze.

The Jennings Creek wildfire is now 88% contained since it started burning last week, the New York State DEC said.

Warwick and Greenwood Lake issued voluntary evacuation orders for residents near the wildfire after it jumped a firebreak on Saturday night.

The Town of Tuxedo announced Thursday that "smoke jumpers," trained experts who specialize in wildfires, will be brought in from western and Midwestern states to "ramp up the attack and make a hard push to put the entire fire to its knees."

A quarter of an inch of rain fell on the Jennings Creek fire early Monday morning, which helped crews get some much needed rest. The fire remains at about 3,000 acres and is 10% contained, officials said.

A small number of homes were under evacuation orders near a New York lake Saturday night after a wildfire that began in New Jersey last week was amplified by strong winds, causing the blaze to breach a containment line by firefighters.
