The European Commission has fined Meta €797.72 million after saying the tech giant's Marketplace held an unfair advantage.

The European Commission has ordered Meta to “bring the conduct effectively to an end,” but didn’t specify what actions should be taken. Meta was also hit with a record-breaking $1.3 billion fine by the EU last year for transferring the Facebook data of EU citizens to the US.

The European Commission says Facebook's parent company is undermining its rivals by embedding its classified ads platform within the social network.

The European Commission on Thursday fined Meta Platforms €797.72 million ($840.24 million) over abusive practices benefiting Facebook Marketplace, it said in a statement, confirming an earlier report by Reuters.

European enforcers accused the tech giant of using its popular social network to unfairly advantage its classified-ads business.

The European Commission’s decision provides no evidence of competitive harm to rivals or any harm to consumers.

Meta Platforms has been fined 797.72 million euros ($843.31 million) by European regulators over alleged harm to other classified marketplace providers in Europe caused by attaching its Marketplace product to Facebook,
