Kathy Hochul’s congestion pricing revival got the MTA’s green light Monday — clearing the way for Manhattan drivers to be hit with $15 tolls by 2031. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority board OK’d the governor’s phased-in congestion pricing plan in a 12-1 vote.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority approved a revised congestion pricing plan for Manhattan that President-elect Donald Trump has threatened to terminate once he takes office.

Slashing the original $15 toll raises questions about whether a smaller revenue stream could delay projects or lead to higher costs for New York’s public transit agency.

The governor pumped the brakes on the first plan back in June, saying the original $15 toll was just too much for people to pay.

The MTA board on Monday voted to approve a new congestion pricing plan for New York City, a critical step in the process to start collecting the tolls. Last week, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced she wants to launch congestion pricing in early January 2025,

An MTA board is expected to vote on the new congestion pricing plan later Monday. The toll now costs $9 to cross south of 60th Street in Manhattan, down from the $15 toll in the old plan. Discounts will be offered for low-income commuters and those driving during the overnight hours.
